OKHA MARINE CAMP

FCA has organized a three days’ marine camp in Gulf of Kutch with west coast of India during 13th -Feb-2017 to 16th -Feb-2017. This was the first of its kind FCA doing such activity and got excellent response from students. Total 65 students participated in the camp with 2 faculties i.e. Prof. Hiral Thakar – camp organizer and Mr. Amit Gorwadiya – coordinator.

Day wise activities done by students:

Day - 1

Arrived at 9 am at camp site. After breakfast, the first session was on Rock beach to study rock and mud creatures. It was of 2 hours where we found octopus, and their eggs, rock crab etc., and learn techniques of handling them.

Same day after lunch all went for sea bath where under the guidance of instructor, students learnt floating in open sea in 5 minutes, also learnt techniques on how to keep body moving when immersed long time in salted water.

After dinner, there was a session on how our universe works and then we did star and moon rising observation.

Day - 2

Early morning 7am we all watched sunrise from sea. Then we had a 5 hour session on algae and beach corals, which was on opposite edge of the island.

This area known as algae garden. Algae is a sea plan found in shallow marine water, highly used for skin care product Dove is the leading brand using red algae in its hair product.

Second day after dinner the camp instructor showed documentary on marines who live in deep sea made by him. Then we had star gazing session.

Day - 3

Last day was most excited as we went 200 Km in the sea to watch dolphins , Between November to February we can find maximum dolphins in this gulf. All 3 types of dolphins were swimming nearby our boat.

After this around 5 we departed to Okha and at 7:30pm okha to MEFGI campus.
