As a part of English Day celebration, the Department of Communication Skills organized various competitions like Public Speaking, Poetry Recitation, Movie Review Presentation etc. of which Spelling Bee was also a part. In all, 72 students had registered; out of which 50 students were present at the venue (MA 306). The event was co-ordinated by Mr. Bhautik Limbani and Ms. Anviksha Shukla, and it was judged by Ms. Pooja Shukla.
In this competition cum game, each student was given a word which was read and pronounced by the judge from a chit and students wrote the spelling of the given word on the board. More than 250 words were included like insouciant, gladiolus, minuscule and bouquet to name a few. Participants were enthusiastic to take up the challenge. They learnt new words through this competition and their enthusiasm mirrored their readiness to accept what may come and give out their best. Many of them got eliminated because of their trivial mistake in writing a single letter wrong or writing an extra letter or missing a letter like writing “i” instead of “e” in privilege and a missing “b” in jamb, but then also they motivated their fellow participants. After 9 rounds of elimination the judge could declare the winners namely Keval Rathod (IT, Sem-1) as the runner-up and Shaily Gandhi (IT, Sem-5) as the champion. Organizers and co-ordinators felt gratified at students’ unreserved response for such language based activities.
